When installing these connectable classic festoon lights you need to have a structure at each end to suspend the lights from. If there are no trees, pergola or walls then you can also install poles in the ground which can provide the support needed to hang festoon lighting.

No, they are fixed LED units, rated at 50000 hours. They will continue to work even if one of the bulbs blows.
